The 'Javis' come back from a tough game in Amsterdam

The first round of the Amsterdam Open has left several very close matches on the first day of play of the round of 32. Of the eight matches that have been played, four of them have been decided in the third and in the others equality has been present throughout the match. The surprise of this initial round was the elimination of Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz.

Javi González and Javi García had to suffer to win their round of 32 match against Pincho Fernández and Pablo Cardona by 6-7/7-6/6-3. They started on the scoreboard after a very close initial set, which Pincho Fernández and Pablo Carona turned around in the tiebreak. The ‘Javis’ reacted in the second set, which was also decided in the tiebreak. In the final set González and García won it comfortably with a 6-3. Their rivals in the round of 16 will be Alex Ruiz and Juan Tello who also won narrowly against Xisco Gil and Ramiro Moyano 7-6/6-4.

The couple formed by Jaime Muñoz and Jairo Bautista got their ticket to the round of 16 after beating Juanma Díaz and Miguel Lamperti 6-4/6-4 in the duel between former couples. Muñoz and Bautista knew how to take advantage of breaking opportunities at the important moment of each game, to tip the balance in their favor. They are already waiting for a rival for the round of 16 that will come from Coello-Tapia vs Arroyo-Rubio.

David Gala and Javier Martínez took victory in their first round duel 6-3/7-5 against Iván Ramírez and Pablo García Rodrigo. They will meet in the round of 16 with Joseda Sánchez and Javier Valdés, who turned around their match against Juanlu Esbri and Lucas Campagnolo and qualified for the next round after winning 1-6/7-6/6-4.

On the other side of the draw, the pair formed by Juan Cruz Bellauti and Javi Ruiz took victory in the first round of the Amsterdam tournament after defeating Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz in three sets, 6-3/2-6/ . 6-4. Bellauti and Ruiz were the ones who dominated the beginning of the match until they took the first set, then Nieto and Sanz reacted, but thanks to the good start of the third by Bellauti and Ruiz they helped them advance to the round. Their rivals in the round of 16 will be Alex Chozas and Álvaro Crespo, who defeated Arnau Ayats and Fran Guerrero 7-6/6-0 in a very good second set by Chozas and Crespo.

Rafa Méndez and Javi Rico ended with victory a match that began by dominating against Josete Rico and Toni Bueno, who reacted in the second set to place the final 6-3/7-6. In the round of 16 they will face Agustín Gutiérrez and Sanyo Gutiérrez who won a very even match against Momo González and Javi Garrido by 7-5/6-4.

Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger achieved the victory 6-3/1-6/6-3 against Nacho Vilariño and Salva Oria. The Argentine couple tipped the balance in their favor in the first set, after breaking their rivals’ serve after an even start. The Spanish couple reacted with a resounding 6-1. Libaak and Augsburger took the final set 6-3. With this victory the Argentine duo advances to the round of 16 where they will face the winner of García Diestro-Leal vs Stupaczuk-Di Nenno.

There are still several round of 32 matches to be played, which will finish playing this Friday. In this way, the round of 16 will be configured, which will start on Thursday.
