Spain wins the Junior World Cup, double for the men's and women's teams

In Paraguay, home of the XIV Junior Padel World Cup, the Spanish team has demonstrated the high level of the next generations of national padel and has managed to win the national team titles in both categories. A success that also carried over to the open category, where the gold medal was achieved in all the categories in which there was Spanish representation. In this way, Spain almost achieved a full victory in the world championship, except only for the under-12 category where there was no Spanish representation.

The women’s team made its superiority clear throughout the tournament, reaching the final undefeated and without giving up a set. In the final they met again with Argentina. The two teams shared a group and Spain had won with a comfortable 3-0. History repeated itself in the final, the first point was scored by Paula Ferrán and Daniela Montilla by beating Pia Agostina and Victoria Milena. The second point was signed by Águeda Pérez and Martina Calvo quickly with a double 6-1. And Andrea Ustero and Alejandra Alonso put the finishing touch to an impeccable tournament.

The men’s team reached the final after defeating Brazil in the quarterfinals, and Argentina in the semifinals. The final against Sweden started very well for the team, with a strong 6-1/6-2 Iago and Aaron García giving Spain the advantage. Later Zamora and Calvo would repeat the strategy of their teammates and with 6-1/6-3 they gave Spain the victory. In the last match of the final, David Gala and Guillermo Collado took the victory against Slaryd and Axelsson and closed the final score with a 3-0.

In the under-14 category the final was completely Spanish, Fernández and García took the gold medal after the walkover of Estebañez and Fuertes. Juan Zamora and Francisco Cabeza had to suffer to win in the under-16 category against the local couple of Dehnike and González. The Spanish turned it around and won 2-6/6-4/7-6. In the under-18 category, Alejandra Alonso and Laura Luján took the victory by defeating the also Spanish Noemí Aguilar and Letizia Manquillo by 6-3/6-4. The match was very controlled by Alonso and Luján who set the pace of the match from the beginning. The final of the under-16 category pitted two Spanish couples, Jana Montes and Martina Calvo started with an advantage, but Andrea Ustero and Águeda Pérez turned it around and put the final 5-7/6-3/6-3 on the scoreboard. . The victory in the under-14 category went to Covadonga Verdejo and Paula Ferrán who defeated the Brazilians De Barros and Guisti by 6-3/6-4.
