The final phase of the FIP Platinum in Sardinia has started with six matches in the first round of the men’s draw. This first round has resulted in the elimination of Cruz Bellauti and Ruiz, the withdrawal of José Rico and Jorge Ruiz from the tournament, and a fast-track victory for the Gil-Moyano couple.

Xisco Gil and Ramiro Moyano defeated Diego Gil and Fede Mouriño 6-2/6-1 in 48 minutes. The Spanish-Argentine couple is already waiting for a rival in the round of 16, which will come from Vasquez-Windahl vs Gutiérrez-Meléndez. Facundo Domínguez and Nicolás Suescun won 6-3/6-3 against Pablo Lijo and Edu Alonso. The rivals of the Italian couple in the next round will be Coki Nieto and Javi Rico.

The pair formed by Mario del Castillo and Nacho Sager advanced to the round after the withdrawal of José Rico and Jorge Ruiz when the match was going 6-1/2-1 in favor of Sager and Del Castillo. Their rivals in the next round will be the winners of the duel between the Perino-Huete couple, and a Lucky Loser couple, captured from the qualifying phase. Joseda Sánchez and Javier Valdés emerged victorious from their duel against Jairo Bautista and Jaime Muñoz, which was decided in the third set. The Spanish couple took the lead in the first set with a 6-2, but the Spanish-Chilean duo turned the score around with a 6-4 in the second set, and a 6-3 in the last and final set. In the next round Joseda Sánchez and Javier Valdés will face Maxi Sánchez and Lucho Capra.

For their part, Lucas Campagnolo and Juanlu Esbri won a very close match, 6-4/7-6 against Juan Cruz Bellauti and Javi Ruiz. Equality set the pace of the match, in the first set both couples broke serve twice, until the Esbri-Campagnolo couple got their third break and took the first set. In the second both pairs defended their serves and the match was decided in the Tiebreak. They will face the winner of Libaak-Augsbuger vs Ortega-Martí in the next round.

Pincho Fernández and Pablo Cardona made it to the round of 16 after beating Raúl Marcos and Alonso Rodríguez 6-3/6-4 in one hour and nine minutes of play. Cardona and Fernández’s rivals in the round of 16 will be Momo González and Javi Garrido.

The first round of the FIP Platinum in Sardinia will close this Wednesday with the last six matches of the round of 32, which will finish defining the round of 16 matches. These are Wednesday’s matches:
