Spanish padel shone again at the FIP STAR Fastweb in Perugia, held from October 16 to 22. The two Spanish couples that qualified for the final, Javier Barahona and Javier García in the men’s team and Nuria Rodríguez and Jimena Velasco Postiguillo in the women’s team, won the title.
In the men’s final, Barahona and García defeated the Swedes Daniel Windahl and Simon Vasquez in a closely contested match that was decided in two tiebreaks. In the first, Barahona and García achieved the definitive advantage with a break in the ninth game. In the second, Windahl and Vasquez managed to take a 4-2 lead, but Barahona and García came back and forced the tiebreak. On this occasion, the match was even more even, with both teams reaching a 6-all tie. Finally, Barahona and García achieved the final match point in the tenth game.
In the women’s final, Rodríguez and Velasco Postiguillo beat Martínez Lobo and Navarro Bjork 6-2 and 6-1. The match was very dominated by the Spanish, who achieved a break in each set to seal the victory.
This Spanish double is a new success for Spanish padel, which is consolidating itself as one of the world powers of this sport.
