The Mexican Open has begun rolling with the first matches of the first round. Momo González and Javi Garrido beat Toni Bueno and Marc Quilez 7-5/7-6. From the beginning the match was very even between the two couples. The four players were solid with their serves, which meant that there were practically no options to break the serve, neither of the two pairs. González and Garrido finally, after several attempts, managed to score the first set after a break. History repeated itself in a second set that was decided in the tiebreaker where Momo González and Javi Garrido sealed their victory. In the next round they will meet Miguel Benítez and José Rico.
The duo formed by Miguel Benítez and José Rico made it to the round of 16 by beating Pablo Padilla and José Ángel Montoya 6-3/6-4. Throughout the match the two couples exchanged control of the match, each couple dominated for moments of the match. But Benítez and Rico managed to take advantage in key moments, by breaking their opponents’ serve and taking the match in two sets.
Pablo Cardona and Javi Ruiz had to suffer to win in their round of 32 match against Pablo García Rodrigo and Iñigo Jofre. Equality set the pace throughout the match, Cardona and Ruiz started ahead, García Rodrigo and Jofre equalized the score in the second set. The match was decided in the tiebreak of the last set, where Pablo Cardona and Javi Ruiz managed to take advantage and advance to the next round.
Their rivals in the round of 16 will be Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz who had their first round match scheduled against Javi Leal and José Antonio García Diestro, but an injury to Javi Leal forced the couple to retire as soon as the match started, when the score was 1-1 in the primer game.
Juan Cruz Bellauti and Arnau Ayats won in two sets, 6-2/6-4 against Edgar Espinosa and Emilio Canela. The last matches of the round of 32 will be played on Wednesday. Eight matches from which the last eight couples will emerge that will make up the round of 16. The two seeded couples, Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello, and Martín Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk are exempt from playing this first round and advance directly to the round of 16.
